Blog Subject Statement

Hello, and welcome to Euro War 39-45! I'm very excited to strt this blog and share my love of history with you. As the title of this blog implies, this blog is going to be about World War II, possibly the most influential war in human history, and will focus specifically on the war in Europe. While the war in the Pacific is best remembered for the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima, it was the war in Europe that has shaped almost every aspect of history until now.

Many of the most famous events of the late 20th century are a result of actions of World War II in Europe, either directly or indirectly: the creation of the United States and the Soviet Union as superpowers, the Berlin Wall, the advancement of new technologies such as jet propulsion, satellites, duct tape, even the space program got its start from captured German rockets and fleeing German scientists.

It is things such as these that so fascinate me as an amateur historian of World War II, and it's this sense of fascination and wonder that I wish to convey to you as I continue to post many "mini snippets" of people and events of World War II, what they did, what happened, how did this affect the outcome of the war, what might've happened, and so on.

You might've heard about people such as Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, and Adolf Hitler, but have you heard of people such as George Patton, Erwin Rommel, Bernard Montgomery, Albert Speer, Georgy Zhukov, and Friedrich Paulus? You may know that D-Day was the Allied invasion of Europe, but do you know the significance of the Battles of El Alamein, the Bulge, Stalingrad, or Kursk? In this blog, I shall endeavour to enlighten the masses on topics such as these.

It is my hope that with this informative blog that those who choose to glean these posts that they walk away from it with more knowledge and a greater appreciation for the sacrifice of all those involved in these events. Until next time, take care, and thank you.
